METHODOLOGY
- The recovery of a classic comes directly from a personal experience: "As a child, we often spent our afternoons listening to Russian folklore songs and we all danced together on the carpet, between the sofas. My mother had brought a vinyl record from Moscow: "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky, the ballet version. I knew it all by heart, and my favorite part was the final Grand Pas de Deux." (Claudia). The Schaiccianoci, the Candied Kingdom, Clara's dream thus becomes a projection of a dream of the choreographer, in which she evokes the wonder and the marvel that the melodies of the opera suggested to her during her childhood games. An approach of personal and contemporary re-interpretation, without neglecting Hoffman's original story: the plot and the characters of the original story take life and space through atmospheres and dances that carry on the narration.
INTEGRATION
The Nutcracker has as a stable working group an ensemble of 6 dancers, but remaining faithful to the character of the series of characters that follow each other in the second act, our show is also filled with different figures: there are many interventions of dancers, artists, or groups, which we ask to collaborate for the staging. As if they were the guests at our Christmas party, at each divertissement a new character or group arrives. In particular, as a dialogue with the territory, we ask to work with young dancers in training, and to meet a children's choir or treble voices. One of our intentions is in fact to make The Nutcracker a show, as much as possible, "pop", in the sense of popular, shared with the territory. A popular event, an appointment, a meeting space.
MUSICAL OPERA
Tchaikovsky's musical work plays a fundamental and primary role in our approach to the work. Our focus is on preserving the score and what characterizes it. Our intervention of re-interpretation of the music takes place through the use of different channels of musical reproduction (on the scene there are for example music boxes, record players, cassette players, live music...) and the use of musical versions different from the original (versions with instruments of Russian folklore, re-writes for a single instrument, arrangements for electronic instruments...). This is possible always and only thanks to the tutoring by professionals and artists who follow the creative development of our work. The interpretative freedom comes from a personal adherence to the suggestions aroused by the melodies.
